THE COWFOLD MEDICAL GROUP

WELCOME TO THE SUMMER NEWSLETTER 2017

NEW STAFF

You may have noticed a few new faces around the Practice recently.

  • Part-time receptionist: Claire Young
  • Dispenser: Charlotte Harding
  • Nurse Manager: Esther Weld-Moore

Esther will be running daily clinics and we will now be able to offer additional afternoon nurse appointments on Tuesdays & Fridays at Cowfold.

You will be able to book all the usual nurse appointments with her including:

  • Asthma reviews
  • Spirometry
  • COPD
  • Diabetic reviews.

YES A LOCUM IS A REAL DOCTOR!

From time to time the Practice have to use ‘Locum’ doctors to ensure that we are still able to offer the same high level of service. Some people query whether or not they are actually fully trained ‘proper’ doctors!

The definition of a Locum is:

  • A person who temporarily fulfils the duties of another.
  • The Locum is a physician who works in place of the regular physician when that physician is absent.

They are, of course, fully qualified & often very experienced doctors, who may have been Partners in other surgeries. They have the same access to the clinical system & your medical records as your regular doctor. We run thorough checks on all the Locums we use.

If you need to see a doctor and your regular doctor is away please book your appointment with their locum if you are offered one by the receptionist. Of course, if you prefer you can wait until your regular GP is back in the practice but this may not be for 2/3 weeks.

MISSED APPOINTMENTS

Appointment availability is often at a premium, it can sometimes be difficult to get an appointment at a convenient time.

In JUNE 2017: 87 patients did not attend for appointments that they had booked with either a nurse or a doctor

PLEASE HELP US BY CANCELLING YOUR APPOINTMENT IF YOU NO LONGER NEED IT SO THAT IT CAN BE OFFERED TO ANOTHER PATIENT

WHY CAN’T I BUY ANY OVER THE COUNTER MEDICATIONS FROM YOU??

We are a dispensing practice which means we can only dispense medication for our patients that has been prescribed by our own doctors.   We are not a chemist so we are unable to sell any medications over the counter. We cannot dispense private prescriptions, prescriptions from dentists, hospitals or other doctors. We cannot dispense for you if you live within 1 mile of a pharmacy.

We ask for 3 full WORKING days to fulfil a repeat prescription & 2 full WORKING days for the collection of the repeat paper prescription.

You can order your medications: On Line using EMIS Access; by fax; by post or in person.

We are unable to take repeat medication requests over the phone.

If you have any queries regarding any of you medications you can ring and speak to the dispensers on their dedicated telephone number 01403 788072.

STAYING SAFE IN THE SUMMER

Most of us welcome the hot weather, but when it gets too hot for too long there are health risks. During a heatwave this summer make sure that the hot weather doesn’t harm you or anyone you know.

The main risks of a heatwave are dehydration & heat exhaustion, and heatstroke. This can affect anyone but the most vulnerable people are the elderly, babies & young children, people with chronic illnesses, people with mobility issues, people with serious mental health issues, people on certain medications including those that effect sweating & temperature control, people who misuse drugs & alcohol, and very physically active people.

For advice on coping with the hot weather please go to the NHS Choices website.
